Military & veteran careers at InGen Biotech
VALOR — Veterans Advancing Life-changing Outcomes and Research — is how we recruit, train, promote and keep military-connected talent. It has a budget, a dedicated recruiting team of five, an executive owner, and numbers we publish whether or not they flatter us.
This is a hiring strategy, not a ribbon
A GMP biologics plant is one of the few civilian environments that works the way a well-run military unit works.
Every task is governed by a written procedure. Every piece of equipment is on a calibration schedule. Shift handover is formal and documented. Deviations are investigated rather than buried, and the person who stops the line because something looked wrong is thanked, not punished. People arriving from the services already know how to operate inside that system, and they usually know how to lead inside it too.
The gap is rarely capability. It is vocabulary, credentialing and the strange civilian ritual of the resume. VALOR exists to close those three things, and nothing else. Once you are in the door you are on exactly the same career framework, levelling and pay bands as everyone else.
Our Veterans Interview Commitment. Any candidate who self-identifies as a veteran, transitioning service member, Guard or Reserve member, and who meets the stated minimum qualifications on a live posting, is guaranteed a screening interview with a recruiter. We honoured this on 1,190 applications in 2025.

Not on the list? Send your last two evaluations or your DD-214 to valor@ingenbiotech.example with no cover letter and no formatting effort, and a member of the VALOR recruiting team will come back within five business days with three specific live roles and why. We do about 40 of these a month.
Spend your last twelve weeks in uniform learning to make medicine
InGen Biotech is an approved DoD SkillBridge industry partner. You stay on active duty pay and benefits; we provide the training, the mentor, the badge and a real job to do.
Four cohorts a year
Starting the first Monday of January, April, July and October. Applications open 16 weeks before each start and close 6 weeks before.
40 fellowship slots a year
Roughly 10 per cohort, spread across Devens, Bloomington, Research Triangle Park and Boulder. Cohort size is capped so every fellow gets a named mentor.
Twelve weeks, full-time
Two weeks of GMP and site induction, eight weeks embedded in a team on real deliverables, two weeks of transition support, resume work and interviews.
78% convert to offers
Of 131 fellows since 2021, 102 received a full-time offer before their fellowship ended. 89 accepted. Average starting grade: 6.
The four fellowship tracks
- Biologics Manufacturing Operations
- Devens and Bloomington. Upstream cell culture, downstream purification, buffer and media prep. Ends with aseptic gowning qualification. 16 slots a year — our largest track. Most of it happens in Building 4, which everyone calls the Paddock, and yes, somebody will make a joke about the company name within your first hour. It does not stop. You will start doing it too.
- Quality & Compliance
- Bloomington, IN and Devens, MA. QC laboratory methods, environmental monitoring, batch record review, deviation investigation, audit readiness. 12 slots a year.
- Maintenance, Automation & Facilities
- All manufacturing sites. Equipment reliability, calibration, DeltaV and PLC basics, CMMS, clean utilities. 8 slots a year. Strongest fit for Navy nuclear, aviation maintenance and 91-series.
- Supply Chain & Site Operations
- Devens, MA and Research Triangle Park, NC. Planning, warehousing, cold chain, logistics, materials management, EHS. 4 slots a year.
- Within 180 days of separation or retirement, with command approval
- Any service, any component, enlisted or officer
- No degree requirement on the Manufacturing, Maintenance and Supply Chain tracks
- No prior pharma or laboratory experience required — we assume none
- You must be able to work at the host site; we do not currently run remote fellowships
What we provide
- A named mentor and a named manager, both trained for the role
- $2,400 relocation and housing stipend if you are moving to the site
- All PPE, gowning, safety training and site access
- Weekly transition coaching and two mock interviews in the final fortnight
- Introductions to the SALUTE ERG chapter at your site from week one

If you still serve, serving should not cost you money or standing
Roughly 210 of our US colleagues are currently drilling members of the National Guard or Reserve. Our policy is written to make that boring rather than heroic.
Differential pay for 24 months
If you are called to active duty, we pay the difference between your military base pay and allowances and your full InGen base pay for up to 24 months of a single activation. Most US employers who offer this cap it at 12 months or less. There is no service-length requirement to qualify.
15 days of paid military leave
Separate from PTO, for annual training and short activations. Weekend drill never requires PTO, and shift-based colleagues get schedule swaps arranged by the site rather than by you.
Benefits continue, untouched
Medical, dental, vision and life insurance continue with no premium change for the whole activation, for you and your dependents. 401(k) match is trued up on your return for the period you were away.
Your job, your grade, your review
Beyond USERRA's requirements: your performance rating for a year in which you were activated is prorated, never reduced for time away, and you remain eligible for the full annual bonus and merit increase.
Ten paid reintegration days
On return from any activation over 90 days, you get ten paid days before your first working day, and a structured 30-day re-onboarding with your manager and a SALUTE peer sponsor.
Managers are trained for this
Every people manager completes a 45-minute module on USERRA, drill scheduling and activation notice. The VALOR team handles the paperwork so your manager never has to become an expert.
A career that survives PCS orders
Military spouse unemployment sits around 21%, and the cause is not talent. It is that most jobs cannot move.
We are a Military Spouse Employment Partnership member and we have built three specific things around relocation, because sympathy does not pay a mortgage.
- Portable role designation
- About 340 of our roles are formally designated portable — fully remote or transferable between sites. Every job posting states its designation. Filter for "Portable" on the jobs page.
- PCS transfer, not PCS resignation
- On receipt of orders, spouses in a portable role keep their job, grade, pay and tenure and move to the new location or to remote status. No reapplication, no probation reset. If your role is not portable, the VALOR team works your internal transfer for 90 days before anything else happens.
- 30 paid transition days
- When a PCS makes your current arrangement impossible, you get up to 30 paid days to relocate and restart, on top of PTO. Used by 24 colleagues in 2025.
- Spouse hiring events
- Quarterly virtual sessions with the VALOR team, plus in-person sessions near Fort Liberty, Camp Lejeune and Naval Station Newport twice a year.
- Licence & credential support
- Up to $2,500 per relocation toward re-licensing or re-credentialing in a new state, for spouses and for employees who are themselves relocating for a partner's service.
Support that does not require you to ask twice
Gold Star family members are covered by the Veterans Interview Commitment on the same terms as veterans.
Military caregivers — colleagues caring for a wounded, ill or injured service member or veteran — have access to our full caregiving package: 15 backup care days a year at $15 a day, the caregiver concierge, and a formal flexible-schedule arrangement approved at site level rather than negotiated with your manager.
Bereavement leave for the death of a service member in your immediate family is 20 days, paid, taken whenever you need it within 12 months.
Memorial observances
SALUTE runs company-wide observances for Memorial Day, Veterans Day, the Marine Corps birthday and Gold Star Mother's and Family's Day. Attendance is on work time.
The veterans employee resource group
SALUTE — Service And Leadership United Through Experience — has 780 members across nine chapters, and it is open to anyone, veteran or not. Its executive sponsor is our Chief Operating Officer, and its chapter leads get 10% of their working time protected for the role.
What it actually does, beyond the observances: runs the peer sponsor programme that pairs every military-connected new joiner with someone who has already made the transition; reviews our job descriptions for degree requirements that are not real requirements; runs the monthly resume clinic that is open to external candidates as well as employees; and advocates internally — the 24-month differential pay policy and the 30 paid PCS transition days both started as SALUTE proposals.

Questions we get asked constantly
Do I need a science degree to work in manufacturing?
No. Our Manufacturing Technician, Materials Handler, Maintenance Technician and Environmental Monitoring roles require a high school diploma or equivalent plus relevant hands-on experience, and military technical training counts as relevant experience. About 1 in 5 of our US manufacturing and quality colleagues do not hold a four-year degree. If you want the degree later, tuition support is $12,000 a year.
How do I write a resume for this if I have only ever written an ERB or an OMPF entry?
Send us what you have. The VALOR resume clinic runs on the first Thursday of every month, 45 minutes, open to anyone including people who are not applying to us. Practical advice: lead with scale (people, budget, equipment value, uptime), translate acronyms once in plain English, and keep awards to a single line. Do not remove your military experience to look more civilian — it is the reason we are reading.
Will my discharge characterisation disqualify me?
Anything other than dishonourable is eligible for every role and for VALOR support. We do not ask about characterisation during the hiring process, and it does not appear in our applicant tracking system.
Does InGen do drug testing, and does that affect service-connected prescriptions?
Pre-employment testing applies to safety-sensitive roles in manufacturing, maintenance, warehousing and driving. Lawfully prescribed medication is handled confidentially by our occupational health provider, never by your manager or recruiter, and a valid prescription resolves a positive result for that substance.
Do any roles need a security clearance?
No. We hold no classified contracts. Some roles require background checks and drug screening for GMP or controlled substance reasons, which is a different process. An active clearance is not a hiring requirement anywhere in the company — though the habits that earned you one usually show.
Can I use my GI Bill or VET TEC while working here?
Yes, and they stack with our tuition benefit rather than replacing it. Our people team can provide enrolment verification and certifying-official paperwork within three business days. Our Bio-Ops Apprenticeship is a registered DOL apprenticeship, which means GI Bill on-the-job training benefits may apply on top of your InGen wage.
What accommodations can I ask for during interviews?
Anything you need, including written questions in advance, extra time, a quiet room, breaks, a virtual rather than onsite panel, or a support person present. Email accommodations@ingenbiotech.example. The request goes to a separate team and is never shared with the interview panel or the hiring manager.
I am a spouse, not a veteran. Is any of this for me?
All of it. The Veterans Interview Commitment, the resume clinic, SALUTE membership and the VALOR recruiting team cover military spouses and partners, plus the portable roles and PCS transfer policy built specifically for you.
Start with a conversation, not an application
Send your DD-214, your last two evaluations, or nothing at all, to valor@ingenbiotech.example. Five business days, three specific roles, no obligation.
